Acceptance
These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your use of TermRoulette (the “service”), provided by the operator of TermRoulette (the “operator”). By accessing or using the service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
Eligibility
You must be 16 or older to use the service. If you are under 16, do not use TermRoulette. Author accounts are for people 18 or older. We do not offer verified parental consent, and we do not knowingly provide the service to children under 16.
The service
TermRoulette is a free micro-learning service that provides short explanations of various terms. The service is informal general information only. It is not a course, assessment, qualification, or professional service. Authors may create an optional account to publish learning sets.
AI-generated content
All explanations and related learning content on the service are generated entirely by an AI language model. That content may be incomplete, outdated, inaccurate, or misleading. It is not legal, medical, financial, academic, or other professional advice. You must not rely on it as the sole basis for any decision. You are responsible for verifying information that matters to you.
Accounts
Learners do not need to register. The operator does not collect names, email addresses, or other contact details from learners. Progress may be linked to an anonymous identifier stored in your browser. If you choose to open a sync link on another device, that identifier is used to continue the same progress. The operator does not use this identifier to identify you by name or email.
Authors may optionally create an account with an email address and password, or with Google or Apple sign-in. We send a verification email before an email-and-password account can sign in. You can add your name and @alias later from Account. Author accounts are used to identify published sets and to let authors change their name, @alias, and password. By registering as an author you confirm that the details you provide are accurate and that you will keep your sign-in details confidential.
Browser storage and cookies
For learners, the service uses your browser’s local storage to keep learning progress, bookmarks, likes and dislikes, and quiz state on this device. That storage is not a cookie and is not used to collect personal data. If you do not agree to this storage, do not use the learner features of the service.
If you sign in as an author, the service sets a strictly necessary session cookie so you stay signed in for up to 24 hours. That cookie stores an encrypted session token, not your password. It is not used to track learners. Details of what we collect and why are in the Privacy Policy.
Infrastructure and IP addresses
Styles and type on the service are served from this origin and use your device’s system fonts. We do not load webfonts from Google Fonts or other third-party font CDNs, so a visit does not send your IP address to Google for fonts.
The service is hosted on Cloudflare. Cloudflare may log IP addresses and other technical request data for hosting, security, abuse prevention, and reliability. For author image uploads we may use the request IP as an ephemeral rate-limit key. The operator does not store IP addresses in our database, and does not use those logs to identify learners by name or email.
If you use Google or Apple to create or sign in to an author account, you leave our site for that step and those providers process the sign-in on their own terms, which includes seeing your IP address. Google Gemini (author content checks) and Google Workspace (mail) are called from our infrastructure, not as a font or analytics beacon from your browser.
Author content and images
Authors may add category names, descriptions, terms, and optional images for terms. Images must be JPEG or PNG files. Other file types are refused. We may automatically check category text and uploaded images for pornography, nudity, gore, graphic violence, and similar prohibited material, and we may hold that content for human review before learners can see it. Images generated with the service’s AI are not sent through that extra check. We may suspend or ban author accounts that try to publish prohibited categories, terms, or images, or that repeatedly attempt to bypass these checks.
Acceptable use
You may use the service only for personal, non-automated learning. You must not scrape, crawl, harvest, or otherwise extract terms, explanations, or other content by automated means, except where Irish or EU law requires that the activity be permitted (for example a text-and-data-mining exception that has not been validly reserved). You must not overload, disrupt, or interfere with the service, or circumvent its security or access controls. You must not upload malware or other harmful files, and you must not attempt to flood or automate image uploads.
Availability
The service is free and provided as available. Features, content, and availability may change or be paused at any time. The operator does not promise uninterrupted or error-free access.
Intellectual property
The site design, branding, and compilation of the service belong to the operator. You are granted a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the service. You may not copy, republish, or redistribute content from the service at scale.
Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the service and all content are provided without warranties of accuracy, completeness, fitness for a particular purpose, or uninterrupted availability. To that same extent, the operator and creator are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of, or reliance on, AI-generated content, or from downtime or changes to the service.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under Irish or EU law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for any non-waivable consumer rights.
Changes
These Terms may be updated from time to time. The date at the top is the current version. Material changes apply to your later use of the service.
Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Ireland. If you are a consumer in the EU or EEA, you also keep any mandatory protections of the country where you live, and you may bring a claim in the courts of that country.
Operator
The service is provided by the operator of TermRoulette. How personal data is handled is described in the Privacy Policy.
